Why is high-speed steel called “wind steel”? Today, we will share you the origin of wind steel.
As you know, when the material is heated to “austenite” structure during heat treatment, it must be rapidly cooled in water or other cooling media to obtain a hard “martensite” structure. Martensite is a very hard form of steel crystalline structure. If the cooling speed is slow (for example, air cooling), it will become softer pearlite, cementite, other structures and the hardness will be lower. After high-speed steel heat to “austenite” structure, even if it is air-cooled, it will get “martensite” structure, that why high-speed steel can be “wind” hardened, and that is the name “wind steel” comes.
High speed steel can be shorten as HSS, HSS cold saw blade is a perfect cutter for steel/stainless steel pipes and tubes. A “yes” will return you a related catalog, for more information or price list, you can find me at:
